Day Six: Grace Church and Wahoo Bay

Today was our last full day in Haiti. We started our day off with another amazing breakfast made with so much love from the Healing Haiti Guesthouse staff. We then were off to Grace Church. We were so blessed by the praise and worship, there wasn’t a dry eye in the place. They sang so many beautiful songs that we sing in church and they were in Creole and English. Once praise and worship was done we headed for the beach! We got to spend the day under the Haitian sun, with the presence of God, friends and wonderful memories of the past week. Today was a great day of reflection and relaxation after a crazy week of serving the Lord. Some went out on the water trampoline, some read books and some went snorkeling. The Lord has been all over us and our hearts this week and today we got to experience more of the beauty of God and His land of Haiti. I can only speak for myself, but I am fairly certain this applies to the whole team…WE ARE BLESSED! God is so so great!! He broke our hearts open this week. We emptied ourselves in everything we did and He filled us right back up with His love, mercy and strength. We are very sad to leave Haiti, but we are all so excited to change our lives back in Minnesota and show everyone how good God is and all the great things He can do in our lives!

THANK YOU JESUS FOR THIS OPPORTUNITY!!!! Forever grateful.

Day Five: La Phare Orphanage, Mountain Drive/Shopping

After spending a fantastic morning watching the sunrise and reading devotions and Bibles we loaded up and went to La Phare Orphanage.

Walking into La Phare was incredible, there was a sense of peace and happiness among the kids there. It took a few minutes for them to warm up, but once they did there was a sense of trust and pure joy (Jesus Others You). We sang songs and made God’s Eyes. The kids really took to the idea that God will always be watching over them and got very creative with all of the different colors of yarn and popsicle sticks. It was an amazingly joyful and spirit filled visit.

Our next adventure was a trip up the mountain. We stopped in downtown Port au Prince to buy hats and that was our first experience with bartering. We also stopped halfway up the mountain and looked at many booths that had hand-made metal art and other decorative items. Once at the top we overlooked an incredible image of God’s Country that many of us have never experienced before. We finished the trip down the mountain and got to experience a church on wheels and many people following, this caused a major traffic delay.

We finished the day with an insightful discussion during team time –  How are we going to translate what we have learned here into our daily walk with God when we get home?

Day Four: Water Truck, ApParent Project, Fleri Resto

We woke up Friday morning early to make it to Church on the Rock so we could enjoy the service in both English and Creole.  It was a very powerful service and worship!  Many of us prayed with individuals who lived in the local area.  Although it was in different languages, it was still very incredible as if we could fully understand one another.
Breakfast was amazing as always, fresh mangos… enough said.  Before we started our daily mission, one of our team members prayed an awesome prayer for a successful water truck day with both physical and spiritual nourishment for the Haitians.
After two amazing water stops we went back to the guest house to clean up and change into our Serenity Village Blue Healing Haiti shirts and head off to the ApParent Project for a tour. We also had the privilege of seeing the new kiln donated by Serenity Village, and were able to purchase merchandise that was fired in the kiln!
The ApParent Project (Papillon Enterprise) is designed to help increase employment to help prevent the orphan crisis and empower mothers and fathers to keep families together.  The ApParent project currently employs over 400 local Haitians.
Our next stop was at the Fleri restaurant. Fleri is very similar to Papillion in regards to the fact that many Haitians are employed there, thus stimulating the economy and it is also directly tied to the Healing Haiti Ministry.
We enjoyed many traditional Haitian appetizers followed by 5 delicious pizzas and finally desert… Mango creme brulee.  The perfect way to end a powerful day!
