Day Five: La Phare Orphanage, Mountain Drive/Shopping

After spending a fantastic morning watching the sunrise and reading devotions and Bibles we loaded up and went to La Phare Orphanage.

Walking into La Phare was incredible, there was a sense of peace and happiness among the kids there. It took a few minutes for them to warm up, but once they did there was a sense of trust and pure joy (Jesus Others You). We sang songs and made God’s Eyes. The kids really took to the idea that God will always be watching over them and got very creative with all of the different colors of yarn and popsicle sticks. It was an amazingly joyful and spirit filled visit.

Our next adventure was a trip up the mountain. We stopped in downtown Port au Prince to buy hats and that was our first experience with bartering. We also stopped halfway up the mountain and looked at many booths that had hand-made metal art and other decorative items. Once at the top we overlooked an incredible image of God’s Country that many of us have never experienced before. We finished the trip down the mountain and got to experience a church on wheels and many people following, this caused a major traffic delay.

We finished the day with an insightful discussion during team time –  How are we going to translate what we have learned here into our daily walk with God when we get home?
